The participation of the Calearo Group to the recent Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona from February 16th to 19th 2009 was very successful.
A DVB-SH demonstration covered the entire Exhibition Centre and surrounding areas, for several kilometres, using in particular the new Calearo active antennas for in-car reception and services.
Together with other strategic partners of the project, terrestrial and satellite broadcasting communications in DVB-SH standard were shown. Digital Video Broadcast Satellite to Handheld, also known as DVB-SH, is a new standard providing hybrid satellite-terrestrial broadcasting capabilities for mobile multimedia services to vehicles and handsets.
The DVB-SH platform was hosted by Abertis Telecom and made possible together with the Calearo Group by Eutelsat Communications, SES Astra, Solaris Mobile, Thomson Grass Valley, UBS, and others.
This was the worldwide first roll-out and demonstration of a major DVB-SH pilot network operating in the S-band.
The project was co-funded by the European Space Agency and brings the Calearo Group further into advanced technologies and innovation for wireless communications.
